Poem: I want to take steps

I want to take steps

to change things,
to make it
different than this,
to make it safe,
to be able
to say and do
and live
and have what
is needed.  All of that
seems right
and reasonable,
but it is
not simple or easy,
and so much
seems against it.
I do not know
how, but I must.
It is not
as if
that is an answer,
but it is
still the truth.
