Poem: Someone will ask

Someone will ask

and I will say
something kind
but bland
and not so much
enthusiastic
and I
feel guilty
because I know
it is unkind
even if
I feel one way
and not the other
and this is
how I can be honest,
but I know
it is not good
or kind or
what is wanted.
I should be
more generous
to you, I think,
but I wonder
if that is because
I am accustomed
to being the one
who must concede.
