Poem: Too Many Broken Promises

Too Many Broken Promises

If you want me to believe
that it is possible,
then I need some evidence,
and we both know:
the only real proof
is for it to happen.
It is no good to say it can
or offer hopeful anecdotes.
I do not need that
and it will not work.
The only thing that can help
is to know it is real,
that is can be.
I realize what I am saying
and I know you will say
I am being unreasonable,
but I cannot keep having only hope.
