Poem: You Gave Me The Name And The Phone Number

You Gave Me The Name And The Phone Number

I wrote them both down,
put it into my phone book
to be certain it would be safe,
that I would not lose it,
and it must be there,
I am sure it is still there,
but I don't remember which one
is the one I need.  The name
is not one I remember
and there are too many
that I do not recognize
that are already here,
so I can't pick it out.
I should just call you,
should ask again,
but I will just wait
and hope it becomes clear.
That may not work
but it is less embarrassing.
