Poem: Shift

Shift

Change to think of it
in other terms,
not as it seems now
but as it should seem
when viewed again
from the perspective
of the desired outcome,
not that it is simple
to even recognize
the true choice
for how it would be
from that person
who is the same
as the one considering it,
the same one as is here,
but not the same
in time, in the version
of an identity, to see
instead the way it is
to look back from who
that will have to be,
to imagine the way it is
to see these problems
as they are now,
to imagine seeing them,
recalling all of that
with the mind
that is the same
but for the lessons learned
in moving to the place
where it has changed,
where it can be seen
from another side.
