Poem: I Said It Would Hurt Me

I Said It Would Hurt Me

You did not stop,
made it clear my feelings
were not important,
were only an impediment
to be bulldozed over,
so, now, when you say
you feel guilty
that you did
what you knew already
would cause such harm,
I can only think
it is you saying
my continued pain
is me inflicting damage,
matters only because
you want to feel better
and not have to worry
that you have damaged
our family in ways
that cannot be corrected.
