Poem: I wanted to be kind about it

I wanted to be kind about it

but it was not easy.
My preferences go
in the opposite direction,
but I did not complain.
I knew I needed to show support,
that it would be upsetting
if I rejected the offer.
I am still upset by it all, really,
by the absences, by the lacks.
It all lines up against me,
but I said nothing.
I know it was for the best,
but I still feel diminisbed.
I wish that were not the truth.
