Poem: I Was Not There, But I Heard A Lot
I Was Not There, But I Heard A Lot
One of them spoke
and said what it was
that had been said before,
what was meant by it,
that is the claim at least.
Maybe it is true
or maybe they
do not even know.
Who can be certain
when it is so long?
And some of the truth
is probably dead too,
is probably buried too.
That is an assumption.
How could I know anything?
I was apart from it all
and didn't even notice,
didn't try to notice,
was not there.
I was absent.
Maybe that is the answer.
It could be
it was the emptiness.
I should find out,
should ask for myself,
or at least find out
what was said already.
and said what it was
that had been said before,
what was meant by it,
that is the claim at least.
Maybe it is true
or maybe they
do not even know.
Who can be certain
when it is so long?
And some of the truth
is probably dead too,
is probably buried too.
That is an assumption.
How could I know anything?
I was apart from it all
and didn't even notice,
didn't try to notice,
was not there.
I was absent.
Maybe that is the answer.
It could be
it was the emptiness.
I should find out,
should ask for myself,
or at least find out
what was said already.
