Poem: Reduction

Reduction

I am hoping I will get it all that way down
beyond the thick to the too thick,
the solid, the hard, maybe, even.  I do not know
if that is the way it will be, if it can be so.
It may sound too much, but it is the goal.
It has to be done right, and I may not know the way,
may be wrong, may have made mistakes,
done the wrong things.  I do not know.
It will keep going, for now.  It will get someplace.
Even if it is not what I am hoping to achieve,
I think the results will be something good.
That is the way I am thinking about it, right now,
which is a strange thing to discover,
since I am so far from optimistic,
maybe just lately, but I do not think so.
