Poem: If I ask you

If I ask you

I think you will say no
but I still believe
it is a good idea,
or a better idea, at least,
than not doing it,
than less.  You
might say
you do not want it,
but I can guess
it will mean something
if I do it.  I should
learn to trust myself,
should give myself permission
to make such gestures.
