Poem: You wish I had spoken up

You wish I had spoken up

but I wish you paid attention
or, maybe, that you cared enough
to notice the mood of things,
to recognize it yourself.
It was not a secret.  I told you
in many ways, direct and otherwise.
How is your failure to recognize
the damage between us
something you seek ready
to blame me for?
