Poem: There was a connection

There was a connection

even if it was not clear
why it should be
or how real it would become
or if it was simple coincidence
and the illusion of more
that comes with certain perspectives,
with the situation viewed
from a particular angle.
I do not know
if there is more
or if there is even anything,
if any of it was or is or will be.
I do not have a great trust
in my initial perceptions.
They were motivated.
I had reasons to want
things to go a certain way.
Maybe that was enough
to bias my perceptions.
I might not have observed
what was really present.
I might have allowed myself
to choose the interpretation
that I wanted from the start.
