Poem: Back again

Back again

Not forward
not the movement
that began before.  Momentum
should be there
but I won't allow it.
I can be an obstacle
to my own efforts.
I can choose that.
I have reasons.
It is not a mistake.
I am telling myself
it is not a mistake at all
and I have reasons.
I am certain
that is enough
to make it alright.
No.  I am certain
it does not make it right,
but it is enough
for me to say it is
even to myself,
at least for a moment,
at least for long enough
to move on and forget
until the next time
now that the momentum
is pushing the opposite way.
