Poem: I do not want what remains now

I do not want what remains now

I want what you gave away,
what I was saving
for myself.  I did the labor,
made the effort
to bring this about,
but you do not consider that.
You do not question
if I have a reason.
I do not think it would matter
if you thought I did.
I am only here
to do what you require.
The only benefit I get
is your being just a bit less upset
that things have gone your way.
I wonder, though,
would you tell me
the same thing
about myself?
