Poem: I am waiting

I am waiting

for the moment when it happens.
I know it has not.
I have not accepted it,
have kept it away,
kept it in a box
where it does not hurt.
But I cannot.
It cannot be this way.
I will realize,
will have to accept it.
There is nothing to be done.
It is over.  Time moves forward,
moves away.  It is gone.
I will need to accept that.
It will happen.
I know it must,
that it is needed,
but, still, I am afraid.
