A Writer's Notebook, Day One-Thousand-Six-Hundred-And-Forty-Eight
I was planning to get some work done on the podcast tonight, but it has been a bit delayed as the person who is editing the audio is not feeling well and needed a bit of extra time. That is fine. It gives me a bit more time to think about things, even if I don't have the ability to really do the work yet. I still have a general plan for what I want to do, and a lot of it involves trying to create a framework for the material that we already have. I think that I know what I am doing, at least in terms of my intent. It may be that it won't actually work out in a practical way and I will have to consider a different approach, but I don't know at the moment. The only way to really know is to put it all together, to test it out. At this point, we have done two recordings. One was me being interviewed by one of the producers, as she thought that would be a good idea for introducing me to the audience, and the other is a recording of me and the editor listening to that recording and making our notes for editing it. I know it is odd, but I am trying to frame the podcast so it exists, at least partly, inside of the edit, as it were. There is still another element, a frame that I need to create, which I plan to accomplish by writing narration and commentary that will be inserted around the other material. I know it is a bit odd, but I think it will allow me to create something that is more reflective of my work in general, and which I hope will be more interesting than if it was a straightforward production.
