Poem: You Noticed It And You Knew

You Noticed It And You Knew

and now I wonder, again,
if it was wrong, if it will do harm.
Maybe they won't see it at all
or will not realize what is meant.
If I had wanted to say anything
I would have said it, been direct.
I don't want to cause them distress, but
it may I have caused it already.  It is too late
to change what has been done
and it may have done damage
that cannot be reversed.
I do not know. I may never learn,
even if it all goes wrong,
it could be kept from me,
could be a secret I do not hear.
I hope that it is simpler than that.
I hope the mistake is academic
and has no practical impact.
That is what I hope for, I think,
though I wonder about the part of me
that created this situation, that chose
to make all this possible.
Maybe I do want a confrontation.
