Poem: They Did Not Ask

They Did Not Ask

because they never knew,
were never told.

I chose to be silent
and keep it
from them:
I thought it best,
easiest at least.

If they had known
and had asked
and brought it up
and said too much,
that would be
too much, might
be harmful.
I fear it
might be
what would come.

I said nothing
and did not allow it,
and instead
you are upset
that no one asked.
