Poem: Things Could Not Be Made Right

Things Could Not Be Made Right

There is not a way
you could have done a thing
to make it better,
not at the time
when you could act,
not then.  It was possible,
the opportunity existed,
but it was not taken
and you can do nothing,
but you must understand
that it could have been done,
that it should have been better.
This was not a mistake,
it was a choice,
and now it is too late
and you will say
you want to help
and make it better,
but only as much as is possible
now that the choice was made
to let things become unfixable.
