Poem: The Circumstances

The Circumstances

So much, already, has been given over,
is no longer here
but gone, so much.
It seemed best, the choices
were considered, were made
with care.  But circumstance
turned.  The changes:
who could know
it would be this way?
If it were known,
if, before, it had been known...
Now, what was done
cannot change,
none of it
can change,
but it is still different,
is the same decision,
but not what was ever wanted.
