Poem: She Can Talk to Lizards

She Can Talk to Lizards

Melissa asked me
if I told the lizard to leave,
the one I had found
scrambling about the hallway.

I sat with it a few minutes,
stood there and regarded it
as it watched me.
We did not understand each other.

I tried to tell it,
I did try, but
it is not interested
in hearing what I say.
