Poetry: All Day There Has Been Darkness

All Day There Has Been Darkness

even at noon, the light was dim
as though the day were hours older,
were dimming into night already,
but it was noon.  There was no rain,
not then, not for hours, but
it was already dark.  Now, it rains,
now, as the darkness meets its proper time,
the clouds have begun to melt,
but it is too late,
the sun has rolled away from this apex,
is reaching other lands.
Tomorrow, I hope tomorrow
it will be brighter.
