Poem: One Star

One Star

I looked up into the sky
and so a cloud so vast
that in the dark of night
I might have thought it
the vast empty itself,
but a crack was present,
just enough to see through
towards one distant star
surrounded by black void,
and it was so far,
it felt so far,
and I was staring down
from the top of a deep pit,
shuddering at the thought
of such a long fall.
