Poem: You Should Know How It Came to This
You Should Know How It Came to This
I want to tell the whole story,
to make it clear, to bring each color,
each texture, the exact pitch
of any voice. I want all of it rendered
with details unmistakable,
the green leaf trembling on a tree
so vivid it is clear
no detail could be false,
so you know it as though
it were here before you.
I want to tell you,
to tell everyone. But,
the want is not enough,
has not freed me
from the great fear,
has not pulled me free
of the silent dark
that surrounds me
since it all began.
