Poem: It Is Not Simple to Be Here

It Is Not Simple to Be Here

with you, not that I
do not believe there is love
that exists between us,
or that I do not appreciate
the ways you help me,
the things you do
for me: I see it,
and I see my part
in what is wrong,
what there is
I must own, but
it is clear it cannot change
because I want change,
not even if I act
in the ways I can
to do what I think
will make it better.
I have tried, and now,
it is time to come here,
to be in this house again,
which once I thought of
as a home.
