Poem: My Grandfather Said

My Grandfather Said

it was an engine,
the paperclip I had strung
along a rubber band,
told me it was not
a simple thing,
explained it,
the transformation
of energy into motion,
the potential for it,
explained it
as if it were a thing
that anyone might know,
the kind of thing
any child
could hear at home.
