Poem: We Have Rules Here

We Have Rules Here

The behavior you show
should be better than that
because you are a member
of a community, a society,
are not alone in the jungle,
are connected to the rest of us,
so you must behave, because
it is quite possible if you are bad
and do not learn to be
the kind of person by others,
the kind who behaves, who acts
the way others will say you should,
because they have learned already
that they should be good too
and get along in this community,
because it is much better
to not be a person
we do not want here,
a person who is not at all
able to be one of us any longer,
who has not behaved in the ways
that make you useful and productive
and not a nuisance to anyone,
because that is what is wanted here,
is what will be allowed as good behavior
by anyone who does not wish to be
a person that we do not want around at all.
