Poem: How Many Will I Know?

How Many Will I Know?

I fear a call
late at night
or early, perhaps,
that someone
I love
has become
one of the rising
numbers on our screens.
Already, an email
about a high school
music teacher
in the hospital.  How
many people will I know?
How close will this cut
and how deep?  How long
will we bleed?
